Don Nowell Design Wire Wheels
are 1/4 scale in size and go on the 'Motorcycle Fine Art' bikes that
Don builds (click on bike gallery below). The wire wheels are 5 1/2"
in the front and 4 1/4" in the rear. These wire wheels are made
out of 7075 T6 Aluminum for the rim and hub with .040 Diameter stainless
steel spokes. D.N.D. wire wheels feature chrome plated brass spoke nipples.
Each of Don's wire wheels has a drilled rim with 40 holes on an indexer
for perfect hole spacing and spoke angle. Each of the wire wheels includes
a hub which is drilled the same way. D.N.D. has given the wire wheels
an authentic look by alternating the spoke heads (inside and outside
lacing). The spokes on each of the wire wheels are turned and polished
on a lathe and then a 1mm thread is cut for the spoke nipple. The nipples
are turned on the lathe and then are put in the milling machine to cut
the four spoke wrench flats, then tapped with the 1 mm size threads
for lacing up each of the wire wheels. These parts are polished and
plated then the parts are laced in an assembly fixture designed for
lacing wire wheels to create perfect run-out, just like full size wire
wheels. D.N.D. wire wheels are truly works of art. For more info on
these wire wheels contact D.N.D. For additional information on Don's
wire wheels and other services and product offered, see the Don Nowell
